There had been two, and for a few moments in the interim there had been simply just one, one paired tangle of limbs moving with little effort sinking into the bliss that came in these softer moments. The press of warm breath against the back of her neck, the casual light tracing of fingertips against her arm. A near breath of laughter that came from her when his hand reached against her side faintly touching where she was still a bit ticklish. There was a sliver of together that still edged on them actually being apart physically as she pulled inward, pushing her back flush to him. Her hands reached for his, lacing fingers together, seeing the way his thumb still strayed against the back of her hand, the way he still managed the lingering touches even in the smallest of gestures.
Moments like this made her want to forget her job.
Moments like this made her want to just leave it all behind and tell him that St. Martin could be good for more than just a weekend. When she thought maybe she could tell her parents just what sort of risk she was really taking with this relationship and tell them things were never going to be the same.
Thoughts like that took a hold of her almost too tightly, as if it was her lovers embrace as those thoughts and nothing more than words rolling around in her head. Thoughts like that pulled into her at the oddest times and stayed longer than she thought they might. Her hands stayed entwined to his, pulling their clasped fingers up against her chest, pressing to her sternum for a moment just taking in the aftermath and the allowing the wondering to continue in her head. Rachel could feel the soft press of his mouth to her shoulder before his chin rested atop it. She knew he was going to ask what was on her mind, because it was clear she was thinking.
Instead his voice was cut off by the buzz of her cell phone vibrating against the nightstand. One hand untangled from his reaching for it as she saw that it was Sydney calling from the offices. It was late at night, and that usually meant they had waited to call her. Turning onto her back Rachel let her hand lace up against his jaw pulling him down to her mouth as she kissed him. Letting it linger for a moment she almost thought about just letting it ring. To let this be the start of her forgetting the job. The buzzing didn't stop in her hand though and so she parted from his mouth turning onto her back to answer it.
"Sydney? It's late, what's happened?"
"Marshall got a hit on Echelon that matched up to one of the numbers in the database you pulled off at that club in Hong Kong. We need you to fly out and retrieve the data before he takes it out of storage in Arezzo."
Rachel nodded still trying to let it register, "What time is the flight leaving?" In her head she was calculating the twelve hour flight paired with the nine hour time change she figured that the rest of the weekend she had planned with Julian was gone. Glancing at the clock she was already upset she'd answered it. Then again answering it was probably smart considering the situation. Had she not there might've been an agent at her door within the hour.
"We're looking at an arrival for Friday afternoon, with op tech needing to prep we've got a take off on the books for three in the afternoon. Can you be here by eight tomorrow? I know it's your day off, but this is time crucial right now. His lease on the box expires on Saturday, and he has an appointment to close his account."
"Yeah Syd, I'll come in. This is important, we've been waiting for this for over a month now." Sydney thanked her and told her to get some sleep before Rachel hung up the phone. Her hand reached out to let go of it over the edge of the bed hearing it clatter to the ground as she turned over to face Julian. Wrapping her arms around him she pulled in close burying her face against his chest, "I should've called in sick." Her words murmured against his skin as she felt him nod silently against the top of her head, "I have a trip, but I'll be back by Saturday? The weekend won't be a total loss?"
Sighing deeply she rested against him wishing that she had told him what she had been thinking before the very job she was putting into question called her. If there was such a thing as karma Rachel knew that it was trying to prove a point, she just didn't want to listen to it at the moment because she wanted more than what karma had in store for her.
