[WaM] 093 - Oh.
May. 21st, 2009 09:30 pmTelling Sydney hadn't ever really been something she wanted to do. It wasn't that she was ashamed of her life, or thought she had reason to explain it away either. Still sitting in a briefing room in DC she watched as Sydney's features fell a bit.
"Oh."
It could've been worse, Rachel thought. The actual entire gamete of reactions she'd worked up in her head had countless different endings. The somewhat blank stare of disbelief was barely on the list. Exhaling Rachel tried to estimate what was going to come up next, if there would be an officer brought into the room to escort her into holding. In a way it seemed she could've been held for a series of charges, but instead Sydney just looked at her and nodded her head.
"Thank you for telling me Rachel, but you've been away from the agency for a while now. Any pertinent data you could've passed onto him wouldn't even be of value at this point."
Rachel could hardly believe what she was hearing as her brow furrowed a bit, "You actually suspect I would've told him anything from work? My personal life has always been separate from my professional life Sydney."
Returning the steady gaze from Rachel, Sydney nodded, "I didn't mean to imply-"
"You did though," Rachel almost snapped, cutting the sentence off before there was an excuse attached to it.
"It's protocol, I have to evaluate the threat to the agency, you know that Rach."
Shutting her eyes she nodded, agreeing that she understood why it had to be done, but disagreeing with the implications that it was putting on her. "Just because I love him, doesn't mean I am not still loyal to my country. I could have not informed you at all, but I wanted to ensure that if you did hear it, that it was from me. I figured after all we had been through, you deserved the truth."
Catching the slight laugh behind the smirk on Sydney's features Rachel tilted her head, "I'm just sorry I didn't trust you with it sooner."
Standing up Rachel moved to the door, stopping before she moved to open it, "Am I free to go?"
Caught off guard Sydney glanced up to her, "Yes of course, you do know that this information is going to be part of your file now. If anything ever happens, if he's connected to anything, we'll have to bring you in as well."
Nodding Rachel smiled, "It's a risk I'll have to take."
